Top 13 Romantic Activities at Disney World

It’s common for visitors to view Disney World as a ‘Family’ destination geared towards kid. However, there’s a plethora of opportunities to reconnect with your partner on your Disney World vacation. Even if you’re on a family trip, you can plan one or two small romantic activities to keep the spark alive! (Note: we have bonus advice on how to handle the kids below.) Whether you’re newly in love, or a veteran couple, use these opportunities to experience magical romance at Disney World.

1. Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride

Very few romantic activities can top the whimsical magic of a horse-drawn carriage ride. Plan for an evening ride where you can snuggle up and really enjoy the scenery of Port Orleans Resort – Riverside or Fort Wilderness Resort. You will forget you’re in the middle of the world’s most famous theme park and instead, you’ll feel like royalty in your very own fairytale. Check out the details of the carriage rides here. Note there are special holiday carriage rides around the holidays!

Unfortunately carriage rides are currently unavailable due to the relocation of the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, but it’s expected to reopen in 2020.

2. A Luxurious Spa Experience

Disney World is the home of Senses Spa, located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and at Disney Saratoga Springs Resort. With a full menu of facials, massages, manicures, and so much more, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Pamper your partner at one of these luxurious spas on your next Disney World vacation.

3. A Romantic Dinner

When people think about romantic dates, they often think about a fancy meal by candlelight. Disney wont disappoint you with it’s ample choices for a truly romantic dinner. If you want to splurge on one of the most elegant, award-winning fine dining restaurants in the world, get a reservation at Victoria & Albert’s. Note that Dining Plans are not accepted.

Want something a little more budget friendly? Try California Grill, or Tony’s Town Square Restaurant.

4. Fireworks on the Beach

You don’t have to be a guest at the Polynesian Village Resort to visit their romantic beach. Arrive early to claim one of the cozy hammocks available to beach-goers. A quick boat ride from the Magic Kingdom will give you the opportunity to view the fireworks from Magic Kingdom without having to fight all the traffic on Main Street, U.S.A. It can be an especially memorable if it’s during one of Disney’s special holiday parties with unique fireworks displays (around Christmas, perhaps?). Bring a blanket and a couple of beverages and snuggle up for the show.

Not into the beach scene? That’s ok. There are a couple other ways you can enjoy a romantic fireworks show. Make a reservation for the Happily Ever After Dessert Party at Tomorrowland Terrace. You’ll have the best seats for firework-viewing, AND you’ll enjoy unlimited desserts. Would you rather avoid the crowd? Make dining reservations at the California Grill at the Contemporary Resort and you’ll be able to view the fireworks from the restaurant terrace. Want more privacy still?  Book a Theme Park View Room at the Contemporary Resort. You’ll have a private viewing of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

5. Splurge on an Epic Flower Arrangement

A killer flower bouquet screams romance. I know this is not so much a romantic activity, but more of a romantic gift, but it can definitely set the mood for a romantic evening. Pull out all the stops and have an arrangement designed by a Disney Florist delivered directly to your room. Even an old classic like a flower bouquet can be elevated to the next level when you add a little Disney flare. You can also add other surprises to be delivered directly to your room. Try it on your next trip! I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

6. Romance on the Water @ Disney Springs

Disney Springs offers some very unique opportunities for romance. One is the Amphicars that drive on land and float in the waters of Lake Buena Vista. You’ll be ushered around with your very own captain while you cuddle in the back seat of your vintage ride. The 20min tour costs $125 (per car, accommodates up to 4 people).

7. Little-Mermaid-Lagoon-Style Romance

Recreate Ariel’s romantic boat ride with Prince Eric by renting a canoe or kayak at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. For about $13 per hour you can spend as much time as you want exploring the tranquil waters around the resort. A little peaceful break with your partner might be exactly what you need during your busy Disney vacation. Check out the details for Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort here. Other lakeside resorts offer boats for rent as well, although they may not be as secluded. Check with your resort!

8. Stay at a Romantic Disney World Resort

All the Disney World resorts are magical, but not all of them will set the stage for romance. For a perfectly romantic setting, we suggest Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. It oozes elegance and romance. They have an orchestra right inside their grand lobby. You wont be surprised to learn that it is the home of Disney’s Wedding Pavilion.

There are a few other resorts that can foster romance as well, offering beautiful grounds for a sunset stroll or a romantic picnic lunch. Our favorites are Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside, and French Quarter, Disney’s Polynesian, Disney’s Coronado Springs, Disney’s Yacht Club, Disney’s Riviera, and Disney’s Saratoga Springs will all be conducive to a romantic getaway.

9. Sunset on the Beach

Sometimes people are surprised to hear that Disney has beaches. They are definitely one of the underrated, under-used luxuries of the Disney Resorts. And are there any romantic activities better than melting into each others arms while you watch the sun go down? Grab a blanket (or towels), a bottle of wine, and some snacks and hit one of Disney World’s beaches to watch the sunset. You’ll even find swinging benches and hammocks for added comfort. Our favorites are Disney’s Beach Club, Yacht Club, the Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian.

Bonus Tip: After sunset, head over to Disney’s Boardwalk for carnival-style games and don’t miss the exquisite treats at Boardwalk Bakery. Disney’s Boardwalk offers a number of romantic activities that you can take advantage of!

10. Specialty Cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon

Indulge in exceptional desserts with a dazzling view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks on the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise. Note that reservations are required for this event and you must be on time! The boat leaves the dock about 50 minutes prior to the fireworks. If you’re late, you won’t get to enjoy the show. You’ll find that Disney’s Specialty cruises are one of the most romantic activities available. You may want to schedule multiple!

11. Romantic Wild Night Out

Be a little adventurous on a Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is an extremely unique and romantic experience at Disney World, offering the chance to see more than 30 species of African wildlife. You’ll be able to take this amazing adventure with your night vision goggles right from your safari vehicle. The tour lasts about an hour and costs about $75 per person.

12. Disney Classics Under the Stars

Several Disney World resorts schedule screenings of Disney films outside (weather permitting). Check with the front desk at your resort for a schedule of showings. You can pack some snacks and snuggle in the moonlight while enjoying your favorite Disney movies.

13. Disney Park Date Night

Take an evening during your trip to enjoy your favorite park from an adult perspective. Ride thrill attractions in the front row (holding hands!), or indulge in an adult beverage (or two) together. Enjoying the parks without the responsibility of the little ones will make you feel like a kid again, and it will most definitely provide opportunities to reconnect with your partner. Epcot is a lovely way to spend your time together, visiting 11 countries and tasting delicacies from each one!

BONUS TIP: Ditch the Kids for One Night Out

Wondering what to do with your little people during your date?

Disney offers in-room babysitting service through a third party vendor, Kid’s Nite Out. Your kids will be in good hands while enjoying arts and crafts, games, and much more right from your hotel room. Disney also has a kids camp, Camp Dolphin, available for kids. Don’t be afraid to let your little ones experience a little magic on their own while you experience a couple of these romantic activities! Check out the details for both services  here. If you want to know more about Kid’s Nite Out, here’s their website.
