Is Space Mountain Scary or Exciting? A Detailed Description (2021)
Space Mountain is an iconic ride at Disneyland and Disney World. It is one of the most popular rides, as it is both thrilling and fun for all ages. But is it scary? Well, that is a hard question to answer! Some people say yes, while others say no. Some even go so far as to claim that Space Mountain is not just “exciting,” but also “fun.” That’s why we’re here today: to give you our detailed description of whether or not Space Mountain is scary or exciting (or both).
Space Mountain is an all-indoor rollercoaster. The exterior is a white cone shape with ridges and multiple antennas on top. It gives a clear impression that it is space-themed, which might be a little intimidating.
There is not much landscaping around Space Mountain; it is mostly barren pavement that is off-limits to guests without permission from park management. The queue is sometimes long and may extend outside, which is not very inviting when it is hot out!
The queue line of the ride is lengthy and weaves back and forth inside the spaceship. You’ll discover fun (and funny) decor along the way. You’ll notice it all seems dated – is it retro-chic or just old? Either way, it does not put off a scary vibe.
When it’s time to board the ride, you’ll get in a single-seat car. For youngsters, this is probably the scariest part of the ride. They will have to travel along the track of this rollercoaster alone.
You’ll be launched into total darkness, with the exception of a couple of warp tunnels with bright, strobing lights. It is a high-speed rollercoaster with tight turns that can give you some serious thrills! You’ll feel tight corkscrews, slight drops, and tight turns, but there are no large drops or upside-down loops in this rollercoaster. For most of the ride, the only lights are the stars you’ll see on the roof of the building to simulate your ride into space.
You might feel like you want to throw your hands up in excitement, but many people are afraid of hitting parts of the rollercoaster because you literally cannot see anything!
It’s a short ride, lasting only about 3 minutes from start to finish.
When it is all said and done, is Space Mountain a scary ride or just exciting? To be honest… our vote is that it’s not scary! It is thrilling but there are also fun scenes. The exterior is lacking when compared to other rides at the park, which makes it seem like it might be more of an adrenaline-fueled ride. But there are no scary drops or loops, and it is a short ride that is not too intense.
You’ll want to go on this ride at least once, but is it worth the wait? We say yes! It is a must-ride for thrill-seekers who are looking to experience something fun and exciting in Disneyland or Disney World.
